About the Speaker

Helena Pasieka, MD, MS is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Dermatology with specialized expertise in hospitalist medicine, intensive care, and severe cutaneous adverse reactions to medications. She received her Medical Degree from The University of Washington and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Michigan, where she stayed on as an academic Hospitalist. After receiving her Masters in Biostatistics and Clinical
Research Design, she went to Johns Hopkins Hospital to complete a 2 nd residency in Dermatology where she completed a Clinical Translational Research Fellowship specializing in complex medical dermatology. Presently, she is an Assistant Professor at Uniformed Services University in the departments of Dermatology and Medicine as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She is also a member of The Burn
Center at MedStar Washington Hospital in Washington DC and volunteer faculty at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Pasieka’s research focuses on epithelial necrosis and drug-induced skin diseases. She has played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN) and Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS), contributing to large patient databases and translational studies that shape clinical practice and treatment strategies.

As the former Director of the Inpatient and Consultative Dermatology Service at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, she co-founded one of the highest-volume SCAR referral centers in the U.S., working closely with burn units and critical care teams. Her work has led to numerous high-impact publications and national and international speaking engagements.

Dr. Pasieka excels at leveraging the strength and expertise of multidisciplinary collaboration to drive knowledge forward. Beyond her clinical and research roles, Dr. Pasieka is a committed mentor, training students, residents, and fellows across multiple disciplines, including dermatology, ophthalmology, gynecology, emergency medicine, critical care, and burn surgery.
