About the Speaker
Mikel Matto, MD is a forensic psychiatrist based in Portland, Oregon. He is board certified in Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. He is Medical Director of the Oregon Health & Safety Sciences University’s (OHSU) Intercultural Psychiatry Program where he manages multiple clinics and provides direct patient care. Dr. Matto is Assistant Clinical Professor at OHSU and Associate Clinical Professor (Volunteer) at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he teaches students, residents, and fellows on the topics of risk assessment, cross-cultural psychiatry, human rights, and trauma. He is active in the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law where he is Chair of the Committee on Trauma and Stress and Co-Chair of the Committee on Human Rights and National Security. Dr. Matto served for 12 years in the Army reserve corps, including several years as Chief of mental health for the California Army National Guard. Dr. Matto has lectured and testified in courtrooms as an expert witness nationally and internationally.
